Buymedia turned up the energy dial with our first-ever cross-functional Hackathon
This past week, Buymedia turned up the energy dial with our first-ever cross-functional Hackathon, a week packed with creativity, innovation, collaboration... and just the right amount of competitive spirit.
Seven teams made up of people from every corner of the company - product, development, marketing, sales, and customer success, came together with one goal: to dream up and build something that could make Buymedia even better. And wow, did they deliver.
The judges were blown away. From the breadth and depth of ideas to the clear passion behind every pitch, the feedback said it all:
This wasn't just a nice-to-have side project, it was a serious moment for impact. Thanks to the rapid power of AI and the open space to experiment, teams brought ideas to life in days that might otherwise take months. And most importantly, they tackled real challenges - grounded in the needs of our users and our roadmap.
While every team delivered something impressive, a few stood out in specific categories:
🏆 Greatest Impact: Team 4 – The Deadline Desk
🔧 Most Feasible: Team 3 – The Buymedia Workspace
💡 Most Innovative: Team 5 – Streamlined Invoicing
🎉 Overall Winners: Team 7 – The Media Trainer
CEO Fergal O’Connor put it best:
“It was very close - all teams are winners because their ideas were outstanding. This is just the beginning of an ongoing culture of innovation at Buymedia. It was amazing to see how well the cross-functional teams worked together and how these ideas can be implemented into our roadmap.”
It’s not every week you get to hit pause on the usual sprint cycle and just build. But this event proved what can happen when you do: new ideas flourish, silos break down, and real momentum builds. We’re walking away more energised, more aligned, and more excited than ever about what we’re building together.
A huge thank you to the organisers and our judging panel, Galvin Venugopal, Johnnie Bell, David Hayes, Tammy Billington-Dynes, and Fergal O'Connor, for championing creativity, collaboration, and a little bit of healthy competition.
And while we didn’t officially have a Best Dressed award, we all know Team 1 – Frontiers would’ve taken it home hands-down, thanks to their slick, branded Buymedia tees during their pitch. Talk about dressing for success!
This wasn’t a one-off event, it was the launchpad for a new wave of thinking across Buymedia. The ideas sparked last week are already influencing what comes next, and we’re more inspired than ever to keep building what’s possible.
Stay tuned...this is only the beginning.
